As a society we are dedicated to the principle of quality and affordable children’s entertainment. We are the oldest established Children’s Theatre group in the UK, founded way back in 1935. If you’re interested in reading about our early beginnings, along with our past productions, why not visit our separate archives website. The society is a member of NODA, and was awarded the NODA President’s Cup in 2016, awarded in recognition of the success and unique nature of Leeds Children’s Theatre – we are the only society that has a membership aged 7 to 70+ that exists to produce plays for children. Our President, Mrs Judith Unwin, jointly received the award with us, in recognition of her work with Leeds Children’s Theatre over the years.
Our core activities include the two plays we stage each year and our weekly Saturday Workshop sessions for, and facilitated by, our members. There is a long waiting list for young people wishing to join us, and take part in our Saturday Workshops.
We believe it’s very important to encourage and provide an opportunity for all children to experience the feelings and emotions brought about from being involved in live theatre, as performers or members of an audience. Leeds Children’s Theatre has recently been accepted as part of the Family Arts Campaign, and we will strive to make your time with us is as enjoyable as possible.
